At her first piano lesson at the age of three, Emily Goins discovered something that would quickly become a predominating fascination: music. After years of asking to play the harp, that dream also became a reality and has become a lifelong passion. An active freelance harpist for over 10 years, she has presented over 13 community harp concerts, presented many educational performances at schools, and played for numerous weddings, dinners, and other special events. In addition, she has played regularly with orchestras and ensembles in Indiana, including the Marion Philharmonic, Orchestra Indiana, Kokomo Symphony, Purdue Wind Ensemble, Ball State Wind Ensemble, and others. She also has over 8 years of experience teaching both harp and piano, and loves helping students of all ages and experience levels discover and develop their own passion for music.
Emily received her undergraduate degree from Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana, with a major in Harp Performance and minors in Piano and German in 2014, and received her Master of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of Michigan in December of 2015. She was a three time participant in Texas All-State and was named a Young Master by the Texas Commission on the Arts. She has also received the Kathrin Fouse Award and the Salzedo Prize from the American Harp Society. In 2011 she won first prize in the Jan Pennington National Harp Scholarship Competition, and in 2012 she placed first in the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale. In 2013 she was a winner of the Ball State Undergraduate Concerto Competition, and was a participant in the Anne Adams national harp competition in 2014.
